All were born in New York; the four older children all had attended school that year.[1]

The 1900 U.S. Census recorded 55-year-old Ferman W. Clawson and wife Mary Clawson, 58, in Royal Oak, Michigan, with five unmarried children. Ferman and Mary were natives of New York, with parents born in New York, who had been married 34 years. Mary was born in October 1842; she had had five children, all of them still living. Ferman was described as a doctor; his birth date was recorded as March 1845. Children in the household were daughter Ina, age 25 (born March 1875); daughter Edith, 19 (born August 1880); daughter Edna, 15 (born October 1884); son Waldo, 12 (born March 1888); and daughter Louise, 9 (born August 1890). All of the children were born in Michigan to parents born in New York; all were "at school."[3]

The 1910 U.S. Census recorded Fruian Clawson, age 69 and a dentist, on Putnam Avenue in Detroit, Michigan, with wife Mary Clawson, 68, and four unmarried children: daughters Edith Clawson, 29, Edna Clawson, 25, and Louise Clawson, 19, and son Loyd Clawson, 22.
